Exhibit № 1 · Język polski · verified against Polish grammar references

All Polish Tenses, in perfect order.

Polish has three core tenses — past, present, future — but aspect (dokonany / niedokonany: perfective / imperfective) splits the future in two, genders colour the past, and an archaic pluperfect plus the conditional round out the system. Every tense below comes with formation, usage, and examples.

foundation

0 · Aspect — read this first aspekt

Almost every Polish verb exists as a pair: imperfective (niedokonany — ongoing, habitual, no finish line) and perfective (dokonany — finished, one-time). Tense choice depends on it:

ImperfectivePerfectiveMeaning
robićzrobićto do / to get done
pisaćnapisaćto write / to write (and finish)
czytaćprzeczytaćto read / to read through
jeƛćzjeƛćto eat / to eat up
kupowaćkupićto buy / to buy (once)
Rule of thumb: present tense exists only for imperfective verbs. A “present-looking” perfective form is actually the simple future (zrobię = “I will do”, never “I do”).
czas teraĆșniejszy · present

1 · Present tense robię · czytam · jem

Only imperfective verbs. Formation: verb stem + personal endings. Three main conjugation patterns (showing robić, lubić, rozumieć):

Person-ę, -esz-ę, -isz/-ysz-m, -sz
ja (I)robięlubięrozumiem
ty (you)robiszlubiszrozumiesz
on/ona/onorobilubirozumie
my (we)robimylubimyrozumiemy
wy (you pl.)robicielubicierozumiecie
oni/one (they)robiąlubiąrozumieją
Polish is pro-drop: pronouns (ja, ty
) are usually omitted — robię already means “I do”. Add them only for emphasis or contrast.
czas przeszƂy · past

2 · Past tense robiƂem · zrobiƂa

Both aspects. Built on the l-participle + movable personal endings. Endings agree with gender — the speaker's (or subject's) gender changes the form:

PersonMasculine (m)Feminine (f)Neuter (n)
jarobiƂemrobiƂamrobiƂom (rare)
tyrobiƂeƛrobiƂaƛ—
on / ona / onorobiƂrobiƂarobiƂo
my (virile / non-virile)robiliƛmy (men+mixed) · robiƂyƛmy (all-female)—
wyrobiliƛcie · robiƂyƛcie—
oni / onerobili · robiƂy—
Gender matters: a man says byƂem, a woman byƂam (“I was”). Mixed groups use masculine-personal (-li) forms.
czas przyszƂy prosty · simple future

3 · Future simple zrobię · napiszę

Perfective verbs only. Looks exactly like a present-tense conjugation — but on a perfective stem it is the future. One word, one finished action:

Personzrobić (to get done)napisać (to write out)English
jazrobięnapiszęI will do / write
tyzrobisznapiszeszyou will do / write
on/onazrobinapiszehe/she will

myzrobimynapiszemywe will

wyzrobicienapiszecieyou (pl.) will

oni/onezrobiąnapisząthey will

Jutro zrobię zakupy i ugotuję obiad.
Tomorrow I'll do the shopping and cook dinner. (both finished actions)
Zadzwonię do ciebie wieczorem.
I'll call you in the evening.
Never *będę zrobić* — perfective verbs refuse the compound future. One word is all you need.
czas przyszƂy zƂoĆŒony · compound future

4 · Future compound będę robić

Imperfective verbs only. Two pieces: future of być (będę
) + either the infinitive or the past (l-)participle. Both are correct:

PersonVariant A: będę + infinitiveVariant B: będę + l-form (m/f)
jabędę robićbędę robiƂ / robiƂa
tybędziesz robićbędziesz robiƂ / robiƂa
on / onabędzie robićbędzie robiƂ / będzie robiƂa
mybędziemy robićbędziemy robili / robiƂy
wybędziecie robićbędziecie robili / robiƂy
oni / onebędą robićbędą robili / robiƂy
Będę czytać tę ksiÄ…ĆŒkę przez caƂy weekend. = Będę czytaƂ tę ksiÄ…ĆŒkę
 (man)
I'll be reading this book all weekend. (ongoing process)
Będziemy się często widywać.
We'll be seeing each other often. (repeated/habitual future)
Variant B (with robiƂ/robiƂa) marks gender like the past tense and sounds a touch more colloquial. Variant A is gender-neutral and safest for learners.
czas zaprzeszƂy · pluperfect † archaic

5 · Pluperfect byƂem zrobiƂ

The “past of the past”. Formed with past of być + past participle. Dead in speech, alive in literature — you'll meet it in Sienkiewicz, not at the shops:

ByƂem juĆŒ byƂ wyszedƂ, gdy zadzwoniƂeƛ. (literary)
I had already left when you called.
List byƂ zaginąƂ przed wojną.
The letter had gone missing before the war.
Modern Polish just uses the plain past + words like wczeƛniej (earlier) / juĆŒ (already): JuĆŒ wyszedƂem, gdy zadzwoniƂeƛ. Recognise the pluperfect; don't produce it unless writing historical fiction, sir.
tryb przypuszczający · conditional

6 · Conditional robiƂbym · chciaƂabym

Strictly a mood, but taught alongside tenses everywhere. Past participle + movable particle by (-bym, -byƛ, -by, -byƛmy, -byƛcie, -by):

PersonmfEnglish
jarobiƂbymrobiƂabymI would do
tyrobiƂbyƛrobiƂabyƛyou would do
on / onarobiƂbyrobiƂabyhe/she would do
myrobilibyƛmyrobiƂybyƛmywe would do
wyrobilibyƛcierobiƂybyƛcieyou would do
oni / onerobilibyrobiƂybythey would do
The by particle can detach and wander: bym to zrobiƂ = zrobiƂbym to. Both fine.
